Forest County

Tionesta, the county seat of Forest County, is at the very heart of the Pennsylvania wilderness and the center of outdoor recreation in the western portion of the Allegheny National Forest. A Victorian-era town built on the banks of the Allegheny River and Tionesta Creek in a wooded river valley. Housed in an 1875 pre-Victorian Eastlake style home, the Forest County History Center is filled with artifacts from everyday life of both Native Americans and early settlers. Tionesta was the staging point for the assembly of rough cut timber rafts floated down the Allegheny for destinations such as Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. Tionesta offers fine golfing, horseback riding and camping, with well-equipped sporting good dealers and knowledgeable guides and outfitters.

Marienville is located midway between Cook Forest and the Allegheny National Forest on scenic Route 66 and is a center for outdoor adventures. Miles of forested local trails attracts thousands of ATV and snowmobile enthusiasts. Plenty of camping and rustic lodging is available in the vicinity. Hiking and bird watching are popular at nearby Buzzard Swamp.
