Tioga County
Wellsboro, the county seat of Tioga County, is home to Pine Creek Gorge, also known as the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Surrounded by 160,000 acres of state forestland, this National Natural Landmark is approximately 50 miles long and about 1,500 feet at the highest point. Explore by bike, foot or horseback along Pine Creek Rail Trail, the 60+ mile trail along the bottom of the Gorge. After a day in the forest, stroll the gas-lit streets of Wellsboro, lined with classically designed homes reminiscent of by-gone eras. The Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival, Dickens of Christmas and the Susquehannock Trail PRO Rally are the major events that entertain people of all ages.
Elkland is nestled among the mountains of northern Tioga County and is home to Cowanesque Lake, one of the largest lakes in the county. This lake offers an ideal setting for camping, boating, fishing or even just picnicking. Each summer the town comes alive with small town festivals that make this area special.
Mansfield is alive with small, vintage shops and cafes but sports a more modern flair offering visitors and residents familiar conveniences.The Fabulous 1890's Weekend revolves around the fact that the world's first night football game was played in Mansfield, PA on September 28, 1892. To celebrate this great historic event, Mansfield University, the Chamber of Commerce, and the entire community join forces to create a colorful family weekend. The weekend moves into full swing with a Motorless Parade, 19th century costumed characters, magnificent horses, motorless carriages, and marching bands.
